Specific things MaineMCN Regional groups do to help!
- Show a film and discuss, read a book and discuss (see Learn More)
- Get more folks to join the Network
- Tell one new person a week and ask them to sign up
- Ask folks to join a Regional Group
Potential Members: Teachers, school nurses, principals, police, judges, security guards, employers, college vet reps, Boy and Girl Scouts, 4H, town boards, religious leaders, American Legion, VFW, VVA, DAV, and more…
- Add local volunteers to the MFAC (Military Family Assistance Center) volunteer list by emailing kerry.birmingham@us.army.mil
- Line up local trainings or educational events:
- You get the place, time and people
- Ask Steering Committee for a presenter
Potential Topics: Battlemind, Military Culture 101, Employer Support for Guard and Reserve, Common Reactions and Red Flags, VA enrollment for health and benefits, What are Military Family Assistance Centers, military children (OMK, MCEC) chaplains, Vet Center reps, VA folks, Bureau of Veterans Services, Family Program.
- Spread the word about the MaineMCN: Post info on MaineMCN to raise awareness and get more volunteers
Things to Post: Signs about conferences, MaineMCN brochures, MaineMCN tear off posters
Places to Post: Community bulletin boards, church bulletin boards, VSOs (VFW, The American Legion, etc), community health care centers, colleges
- Contact libraries/bookstores to distribute MaineMCN materials that will increase awareness of the MaineMCN
- Ask local libraries to carry books that are helpful (see Learn More)
- Tell 5 people about MaineMCN and give out web address (www.MaineMCN.org) to sign up
- Ask local businesses to include a newsletter blurb to spread the word about the MaineMCN
- Identify a community event where the MaineMCN booth can be useful and use it there to educate community and get MaineMCN sign ups
- Health care or mental health care conferences
- Substance abuse conferences
- TBI conferences
- College events
- Volunteer events
- Military events
- Spread information about issues and resources
- Post flyers on the issues that are faced and the resources available
